Question for the Month???

I just sent this blast:

How do you identify with being called a consumer? Are we actually “eating” mental health services or even “selectively purchasing” services? Send your answers in…. Pat

Actually, to be called a consumer is my least favorite name to be called. To me it makes me think of a huge line of trucks that pull up to the mental health plant and suck the plant dry then go home for the day.It appears a title used to minimize the people that are in need and are making use of the services. It is like the word illness, it seems to get a little more air time than its got coming. In my own life I'm a big fan of wellness and that is how I base my life. My wellness as I've come to find out is big enough to be all inclusive of the illness so that it is part of wellness and manageable. We are not consuming anything. We are people asking for help so we can take part in our own lives.
